Ukraine has announced the commencement of mass production for an innovative locally engineered interceptor drone to strengthen its aerial protection systems. Three initial producers have begun production, with 11 more getting ready to establish assembly lines, the defence ministry announced this past Friday.

Advanced 'Octopus' System Proven in Battlefield Situations

The drones utilize a domestically developed technology known as “Octopus” designed to intercept Iranian-made drones. The system has been tested in combat and proved successful “at night, amid electronic warfare and flying low,” the ministry stated. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy established a target of manufacturing up to 1,000 defensive drones each day.

Latest Assault on the Capital Characterized as Deliberate

Volodymyr Zelenskyy described Russia’s latest attack against Ukraine as “intentional, premeditated and wicked” after six people lost their lives and dozens wounded in a series of nocturnal attacks across Kyiv. Alert systems activated in Kyiv shortly after 12 AM on Friday, with Shahed drones quickly detected overhead and heavy machine-gun fire from Ukraine's aerial protection units.

The president stated the country was targeted by 430 drones and multiple missiles. Those killed had been inside their residences in an apartment building on Kyiv’s left bank during the strike. Dozens of additional structures sustained damage, among them the diplomatic mission of Azerbaijan.

International Objection Following Diplomatic Compound Damage

The Azerbaijani government announced it issued a formal objection to the Russian ambassador on Friday after the destruction at its diplomatic compound. An explosion from a Russian Iskander missile destroyed part of the embassy’s perimeter wall and resulted in serious damage to the diplomatic compound, the Azerbaijani foreign ministry stated. Moscow plans to produce as many as 120,000 glide bombs this year, a high-ranking Ukrainian defense official disclosed, among them 500 of a new, extended-range model that can reach additional urban centers. Russian forces were firing hundreds of glide bombs daily, with the previous month's daily average being about 170, based on official military statistics.

Kyiv's Strikes Focus on Moscow's Oil Facilities

Russia’s maritime terminal of Novorossiysk halted for a period oil exports this past Friday – representing 2% of global supply – after a Ukrainian missile and drone attack. Military commanders in Kyiv stated its forces had fired domestically produced missiles and deployed various types of attack UAVs in the assault against Novorossiysk “as part of operations to diminish the military and economic potential of the invading force.”

Ukraine separately struck a processing plant in the Saratov area and a fuel storage facility in the adjacent Engels region during the night.

Global Sanctions Affect Moscow's Oil Producer

Russia’s second-largest energy company Lukoil said on Friday it is negotiating with potential buyers concerning its international holdings after last month’s sanctions from Western nations and failure of a deal with the Gunvor trading house. “The specific deal will be announced once the final agreements have been reached and required authorizations are secured,” the company stated.

Ukrainian President Plans Diplomatic Trip to Spain

The Ukrainian leader is scheduled to travel to the Spanish capital, Madrid, next Tuesday to meet with lawmakers following his visit to Paris, the chamber of deputies announced. Zelenskyy will convene with deputies from both chambers of the legislature during his visit, an official announcement confirmed.
