Individual Who Grabbed Ariana Grande during Movie Premiere Banned from Singapore
An Australian man who vaulted over a barricade and reached for celebrity Ariana Grande has been expelled and barred from Singapore.
The man, 26, was given a sentence to over a week in detention for causing a public disturbance and has now been "prohibited from returning to Singapore," the country's border control stated to Singaporean press.
The man shoved past photographers and charged at the performer and artist, who was present at the Asian premier for Wicked: For Good on the thirteenth of November. Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo wrestled him away from Grande.
The individual has a record of causing disturbances at events and celebrity events, including leaping onto the platform at the pop star's Australian show in the past June.
The incident caused anger in Singapore, with numerous people accusing him of triggering past trauma for the singer.
The pop star has mentioned suffering from trauma-related anxiety after a terrorist bombing at her concert in the English city in May 2017 resulted in the deaths of 22 people and affected hundreds.
In the legal process, the authorities learned he had made efforts to breach on the movie's debut multiple times, according to local news sources.
He then made a follow-up try to jump the barricades. Event security prevented him and restrained him.
The man subsequently shared video clips expressing gratitude to the star for permitting his access and said he was "free."
Law enforcement detained him the subsequent day and accused him with disorderly conduct, to which he confessed.
The Court Judge Christopher Goh was referenced by a news outlet as stating that the man sought attention, commenting that he was mistaken to believe he would not face any penalties.
Grande has not addressed the situation.
Cynthia Erivo spoke about the incident to a media outlet, saying that she "only aimed to verify my colleague was safe."
"I believe he didn't intend us harm, but you never know with such situations, and I wanted to make sure that she was alright. That was my first instinct," she commented.
